It’s Human Rights Day 2013 (or on Twitter it’s #HRDay13)

Today is Human Rights Day 2013. So what does this mean?

The United Nations in 1950 decided that 10 December should be marked by Human Rights Day to bring to the attention ‘of the peoples of the world’ the  Universal Declaration of Human Rights as the common standard of achievement for  all peoples and all nations

So over on Twitter there are hash tags including #humanrightsday and #hrday13 trending. But for us as human rights activists I think it is important we do something that makes a difference on this day. Many of us in the group will be attending our regular group meeting this evening (everyone welcome and we have homemade brownies available too!). And there are a variety of events across the UK to mark the day.

But we love people to take action for prisoners of conscience like Jabeur Mejri in Tunisia who was imprisoned for posting on Facebook. To take action visit this page on Amnesty UK website

And given it’s Nelson Mandela’s Memorial Service then you might want to share what he meant to you on the online Mandela Memorial website
